Teater Ugala sündis 5. jaanuaril 1920, mil Koidu seltsimajas esitati Jacobi Jandi “Pansion Schöller ehk Kui onu hullumajas käis” (näitejuht Märt Mõrd). Professionaalse teatri staatuse sai teater 1926. aastal.
1981. aastal sai teater uue, avara ja modernse maja. Arhitektideks olid Irina Raud, Inga Orav, Kalju Luts ning sisearhitektiks Mait Summatavet.
Ühena Eesti suurematest teatrimajades mahutab suur saal ligi 500 vaatajat, väikeses saalis on 160 kohta.

Theatre „Ugala“ was founded on January 5th, 1920, when Jacobi Jand’s „Pansion Schöller ehk kui onu hullumajas käis“ was performed in Koidu’s parlour house. It got the status of a professional theatre in 1926.
In 1981, the theatre got a new, bigger, more modern house. The architects of the new building were Irina Raud, Inga Orav, Kalju Luts and the interior decorator was Mait Summatavet.
As the one of the biggest theatres, it fits 500 viewers in its big hall and 160 in its small hall.
The coordinates of the theatre are 58º21'45'' N 25º35'15'' E.
